The Far Eastern Department Store in Zhubei, Taiwan, China, has been welcomed as a new retail experience and platform for cultural inheritance in the city.
The department store is spread over eight above-ground and two basement levels and draws inspiration from the local Hakka culture.
Hakka family groups account for over 80% of the Hsinchu County population. The design team interpreted local elements such as Tulou architecture, bamboo weaving and tea culture, using colour, texture, lighting, motifs, signage and flooring to create different settings and experiences for visitors.
