After Hurricane Sandy hit New York City in 2012, we designed Haven Plaza Resiliency to meet the four-building, low-income housing complex's storm resiliency needs. The building appears to float above the floodplain on three concrete supportive fins. It doesn't house people; it houses machinery to keep people warm, dry, and safe. We hope our design showcases the function of the building and offers comfort to the residents of Haven Plaza. The next time we have a terrible storm like Sandy, the lights and heat won't go off, and the elevators and water will work.
