Instead of using small corridors to connect all the classrooms, we proposed a 6m-wide-and-80m-long space that connects all the classrooms across three levels and functions as an indoor playground and learning spaces. In this linear multi-purpose indoor playground, children play, dance, ride bicycles, crawl, sit and read. Circulation spaces are no longer mere spaces of passages, but have become spaces for learning, playing and communication.
Bio Interval Architects is a Shanghai-based architecture design practice co-founded by Oscar KO and GU Yunduan. The practice critically examines issues relating to urbanism, architecture and the environment. We believe that architecture should possess qualities that reflect specificities of its context and become a spatial production that belongs to a certain place and time. The practice has completed several representative projects including Tower of Bricks, Raffles Kindergarten Complex and 1/2 stadium.
