Rehabilitation of a 2-story century old stone building and an adjoining concrete building within the Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Conservation buffer zone. Timber components of the stone building were replaced and existing stone walls and features highlighted. Recovered timber treated and reused as feature. The ground floor becomes a modern supermarket with a café/exhibition area above. The concrete facade is harmonized by balcony continuity and artificial wood facing and skyline treatment. Technical elements, lift, cold room, transformer, generator, chiller plants, discretely integrated.
