• About Firm
  Caiano . Morgado Arquitectos is an Oporto based architectural practice created in 2007 by associates Joana Caiano and António Morgado. Since its inception, the practice has worked on a variety of projects across different areas, and built a solid reputation, namely with their renovation work. Their work has been widely and internationally published in trade and professional publications, as well as books.

The project is bound by strict council regulations, which determine that new buildings must have traditional roofs in clay tile or similar.
Our approach was inspired by the timeless quality of the local port wine cellars. The solution – borne out of their simple lines – is aligned to their shape and colour. To achieve this, we are using a contemporary material – concrete – in the more local, traditional clay tone. In time, the colouring of both the roofing over the cellars and the new concrete will merge even closer together.

“Secil Universities Award 1999-2000 Competition” with “Children´s Garden School in Aldoar”, Oporto | (shortlisted: best six of the bienal competition / 1st place in the “College of Architecture and Arts at Lusíada University of Oporto”). Shortlisted at “Europan 6” international competition for young architects, in 2001. Nominated for the “BUILDING OF THE YEAR Awards 2010, by ARCH DAILY” with “Warborn Apartament”.
