The green energy pavilion celebrates a milestone in the history of the German village of Referinghausen. During its 750th anniversary, in the summer of 2019, the community demonstrated — in an atmospheric way — how the village is from now on independent of the global energy market. Due to the self-built local heating grid network, which is connected to an organic waste-based biogas plant, energy costs have been reduced by 50% and CO2 emissions by 100%. The steel basin with hot water in the center symbolizes the energy, the straw is a metaphor for the biomass from which the energy is generated.
